Dear Colleagues and Friends of CEIMSA,

Most of you know the story of the farmer who asked his university educated son for some advice: His new piglets were not getting enough food because the big hogs were lying in the trough preventing the little ones from eating. The son listened to his father, then smiled knowingly: “Dad,” he said, “it’s the survival of the fittest, there is nothing you can do about it; just let nature take its course.” But the farmer didn’t like the idea of loosing those piglets, and he then went to his high-school age son and explained the problem. “Pa,” said the younger son, shrugging his shoulders, “just put more food in the trough and some will spill over on the ground for the piglets to eat.” The farmer didn’t like this solution any better. The additional cost for more food was a negative. Finally he went to his youngest daughter, who had not yet begun school and he asked her advice. She looked into his eyes and told him: “Just push the big hogs out of the trough, papa; then the little ones will eat.” He gave his daughter a big hug for her suggestion, and it worked.

The 8 items below provide an essential framework for an understanding of how late capitalism has managed to hang on for years in the counter-productive stage of collapse. We see how pathetic opportunists have jumped on board the sinking ship to get a stab at steering the vessel as it goes down. Our corporate masters are still in charge and their minions are still scurrying to curry favor, but let there be no doubt, the ship is going down! The most practical activity at present might be to prepare new vessels out of old materials before they are lost forever. What blueprints are available?

Sincerely,

Francis Feeley
