Several years ago, when teaching an undergraduate class on “Capitalist Mass Media”, I introduced the course with a pithy quote from Michael Parenti: “The corporate media do not tell you what to think; they tell you what to think about.” Today, we see not much has changed. The agenda of what we can legitimately think about has widened considerably and is more easily discussed, but nevertheless, sever taboos are still in place, and to think beyond the proscribed limits is not without risk of sanctions. The proverbial “carrot and stick” still prevail to guide our thinking.
The Marxist
scholar David Harvey touches on this modality of creating cultural hegemony in

When trying to
interpret, understand, and analyze the daily flow of news, I tend to locate
what is happening against the background of two distinctive but intersecting
models of how capitalism works. The first level is a mapping of the internal
contradictions of the circulation and accumulation of capital as money value
flows in search of profit through the different “moments” (as Marx calls them) of
production, realization (consumption), distribution, and reinvestment. This is
a model of the capitalist economy as a spiral of endless expansion and growth.
It gets pretty complicated as it gets elaborated through, for example, the
lenses of geopolitical rivalries, uneven geographical developments, financial
institutions, state policies, technological reconfigurations and the
ever-changing web of divisions of labor and of social relations.
I envision this model
as embedded, however, in a broader context of social reproduction (in
households and communities), in an ongoing and ever-evolving metabolic relation
to nature (including the “second nature” of urbanization and the built
environment) and all manner of cultural, scientific (knowledge-based), religious,
and contingent social formations that human populations typically create across
space and time. These latter “moments” incorporate the active expression of
human wants, needs, and desires, the lust for knowledge and meaning and the
evolving quest for fulfillment against a background of changing institutional
arrangements, political contestations, ideological confrontations, losses,
defeats, frustrations, and alienations, all worked out in a world of marked
geographical, cultural, social, and political diversity. This second model
constitutes, as it were, my working understanding of global capitalism as a
distinctive social formation, whereas the first is about the contradictions
within the economic engine that powers this social formation along certain pathways
of its historical and geographical evolution.
In my own study,
America’s
Concentration Camps during World War II, Social Science and the Japanese
American Internment (New Orleans, 1999), I attempt to demonstrate how the management of Japanese
immigrants and Americans of Japanese descent in the United States in the 1940s
was an exercise in social engineering , with but a limited success.
The stated
objective of the United States government was “to Americanize” this ethnic
minority living on the West Coast of the United States and ultimately to “pacify”
the enemy population of Japan after the war, during the post-war
reconstruction. Among the social scientists recruited to achieve this end was Dorothy
Swain Thompson, who was on the faculty of rural sociology at UC-Berkeley? She was the wife
of the famous Chicago School sociologist, W.I. Thompson, who had led the
multi-volume study, entitled The Polish
Peasant in Europe and America (New York, 1918) at the start of the century.
Dr. Dorothy
Thomas served as Director of the Japanese
American Evacuation and Resettlement Study (JERS) between February 1942 and
December 1945. Based on her expertise in demography and statistics, she led
a team of 35 social scientists, but refused to provide them with any
theoretical framework with which to conduct their observations. She insisted
that her fieldworkers had the “unique opportunity” to create “a socio-historic
record on the spot and at the time the events were occurring;” In her words:
… the purpose of the study … is to
collect, organize, and analyze ‘relevant’ data on (a)
the nature of the restrictions that were imposed on the group; (b) how the
persons affected behaved under these restrictions and after the restrictions
were removed.(cited on p.201)
In an
unpublished proposal to study the Japanese American evacuees, dated May 1,
1942, and submitted to the Rockefeller Foundation with a request for $14,000
for the first year of the study, Thompson disclaimed any humanitarian motives:
This research project is in no way
connected with the interests of the [UC-Berkeley] administration or of
individual faculty members in the welfare of the Japanese group as a whole or of the students of
Japanese ancestry.(cited on p.198)
The science
of the day, in the first half of the 20th century, still revolved around the
notion of “objectivity,” with scant concern for less “hard headed” sentiments
like feelings, identity, self-worth, etc. -- none of which could be easily quantified.
The myths of “objectivity” and ‘individualism” dominated the realm of scientific
thought, and secured it under the control of a vigilant ruling class, whose
interests it was always suppose to serve. All successful scientists were
committed to this end, and particularly those working in the field of social
science. Thus, the science of social control naturally received priority
support, while the science of revolutionary change was largely denied existence.
This bias
soon assumed the status of the notorious Stalinist axiom:
Eliminate the person, and you eliminate the problem! People were to be “loyal”
until death do they part…. Any concern about economic inequality and political injustice
were outside the realm of science. Instead, a pragmatic individualism dictated
that it was incumbent upon each person to learn to adjust to the status quo,
and in time of war this was enforced by martial law. Before this experiment was
over, thousands of young Japanese American men had forfeited their lives in a
de facto all-Nisei “suicide battalion,” officially named the All-Nesei 442nd
Regimental Combat Team, under the command of the Caucasian officer, Colonel
Charles W. Pence. “In seven major campaigns this Regiment suffered 9,486
casualties, which was more than 300% of its original strength. Six hundred
Nisei were killed in combat. General Mark W. Clark, head of the Fifth Army in
Italy commanded some 5,000 Nisei.” He reported after the war:
General George C. Marshall had given
me instructions that as soon as I put them [the all-Nisei regiment] into
combat, to give him an immediate report on their capacity for fighting, their
loyalty; and about it, I was utterly amazed. They were willing to give their
lives readily, and I gave a glowing report to General Marshall and said: if you got
any more send them to me.(p.271)
The young American
soldiers of Japanese ancestry were literally dying to prove their "loyalty" and
that of their families and friends who remained incarcerated in concentration camps across
North America. The success of this experiment is seen in the fact that until
recently, these soldiers were considered "war heroes" by their families in
America. They had willingly paid “the ultimate price” to prove their unconditional
“loyalty” to the United States of America.
Today, we have
experienced a “paradigm shift,” and the importance of individual adjustment to
the status quo has ceded its place to a new scientific concern for systemic
social change. This was first embodied in the 1960s, during the Vietnam War, when
a growing social movement in the United States manifested itself in a call for “Science
for the People.” In France a similar movement took shape around a journal called : ImpaScience (a
play on words which expressed the growing impatience with unnecessary obstacles
to scientific development).
This notion
that culture constitutes an indispensible matrix in which scientific work can be
done is described in Catherine Nixey’s provocative
book, The
Darkening Age, The Christian Destruction of the Classical World (New York,
2017). In this book, she describes
the pre-Christian cultures of polytheistic toleration as a stable milieu for
learning and spreading scientific knowledge.
The old laissez-faire Roman ways, in
which the worship of one god might simply be added to the worship of all the
others, were, preachers told their congregations, no
longer acceptable. Worship a different god, they explained, and you were not
merely being different. You were demonic. Demons, said the clerics, dwelt in
the minds of those who practiced the old religions. Those who criticized Christianity,
warned the Christian apologist Tertullian, were not speaking with a free mind. Instead , they were attacking the Christians because they
were under the control of Satan and his foot soldiers. The ‘battle ground’ of
these fearsome troops was nothing other than ‘your minds, which have been
attuned to him by his secret insulations.’ Demons were able to ‘take possession
of men’s souls and block up their hearts’ and so stop them believing in Christ.(p.21)
Christianity
seems to exhibit an intuitive grasp of the notion that total power required
cultural hegemony. And its imposition was attempted on others as well as among
themselves, the self-professed Christians.
Christian observers would look on the
tolerance of their non-Christian neighbors with astonishment. Augustine later marveled
at the fact that the pagans were able to worship many different gods without discord,
while the Christians, who worshipped just the one, splintered into countless warring
factions. Indeed, many pagans like Celsus seemed to actively
praise plurality. To the Christians, this was anathema. Christ was the way, the
truth and the light, and everything else was not merely wrong but plunged the believer
into a demonic darkness. To allow someone to continue in an alternative form of
worship or a heretical form or Christianity was not to allow religious freedom;
it was to allow Satan to thrive.
Augustine, despite being impressed by the harmony of his neighbors, was
not willing to extend such tolerance himself. It was, he concluded, the duty of
a good Christian to convert heretics – by force, if necessary. This was a theme
to which he returned again and again. For better a little compulsion in this
life than eternal damnation in the next. People could not always be trusted to
know what was good for them. The good and caring Christian would therefore
remove the means of sinning form the uncertain reach of the sinner. ‘For in
most cases we server others best by not giving, and would injure them by
giving, what they desire,’ he explained.(pp.48-49)
In Chapter
8, “How To Destroy A Demon”, Nixey describes the
Christian destruction of temples, the vandalizing of statues, and the
terrorizing of citizens in Carthage in the 420s.
At the end of the fourth century, the
orator Libanius looked out and described in despair
what he observed. He and other worshippers of the old gods saw, he said, their
temples ‘in ruins, their ritual banned, their alters
overturned, their sacrifices suppressed, their priests sent packing and their
property divide up between a crew of rascals.’(p.129)
In the following chapter, Chapter 9, Nixey delivers a gruesome description of the destruction of cultural genocide in Alexandria in the second decade of the fifth century. This metroposlis on the Nile Delta dates back to its founding, by Alexander the Great, in 331 BC . By the time Rome gained control of Egypt in 30 B.C., Alexandria had become an intellectual center without precedent. Scholars from all over the world were attracted to the conditions of life here, and, according to the author, after the conversion of the emperor Constantine in 312 A.D., Christians began their attacks on pagan culture and eventually moved in to destroy the non-Christian culture of Alexandria, as one more barrier to the expansion of their dogma. The Temple of Serapis and the legendary library at Alexandria were obvious targets.
It was a library of awesome ambition – and size. The number of scrolls
that kit held is contested, but estimates of the collection give an idea of its
extent – and they are astonishing. One puts the library’s holdings at an
implausibly high 700,000 volumes by the first century B.C. Nonsense, probably,
but there were perhaps as many as 500,000 scrolls by the third century B.C.
Certainly there were so many that, for the first time, a system of categorizing
the scrolls had to be invented to keep track of them all.
This was easily the greatest library that the world had ever seen – or
that it would see for centuries. The famous later monastic libraries were paltry
by comparison: the earlier ones usually held around only twenty books, and even
the major libraries of the twelfth century contained no more than five hundred
or so – and naturally such collections were heavily weighted towards Christian
texts. It took well over a millennium for any other collection to come close to
what Alexandria had achieved in terms of volume, and longer still before any
other library demonstrated such intellectual omnivorousness.
By 1338, the library of the Sorbonne in Paris, the richest in the Christian
world, offered a theoretical 1,728 works for loan – 300 of which, as its
registers noted, it had already manages to lose.
It wasn’t only books that Alexandria collected, but intellectual.
Scholars here were treated with reverence and to some marvelous facilities. . .
.
Some of the most brilliant mends of the classical period flocked there
to write, read, study, eat those free meals and, of course, to bicker. ‘In populous
Egypt,’ one vinegary observer wrote, ‘many cloistered bookworms are fed,
arguing endlessly in the chicken-coop of the Muses.’(pp.139-140)
These
scholars had included the brilliant mathematician and physicist Archimedes;
Eratosthenes, the first to calculate the circumference of the earth; the poet
Callimachus; the astronomer Aristarchus of Samos, who proposed the first heliocentric
model of the solar system; the renown physician Galen of Pergamon; Euclid,
"father of geometry", and the mathematician Theon
whose commentaries on Euclid are considered today as the foundation of the
study of plane geometry.
Nixey recounts,
at the end of Chapter 9, the murder of Theon’s
daughter, Hypatia (360-415), herself a philosopher
and mathematician who lived at the center of Alexandria’s intellectual life at
the beginning the fifth century.
After razing Serapis
the Christians had gone on a victorious rampage through the city and its 2,500
shrines, temples and religious sites. Busts of Serapis
that had (much like the Virgin Mary in Italian villages today) previously stood
in streets, wall niches and above doorways had been removed – ‘cleansed.’ The Christians
had ‘so cut and filed [them] away that not even a trace or mention of [Serapis] or any other demon remained anywhere. In their
place everyone painted the sign of the Lord’s cross on doorposts, entrances,
walls and columns.’ Later, with bolder finality, crosses were carved in.
The city’s intellectual life had suffered. The final remnants of the
Great Library had gone, vanishing along with the temple. Many of Alexandria’s intellectuals
had gone too, fleeing to Rome, or elsewhere in Italy, or anywhere they could to
get away from this frightening city.(p.141)
On day in March AD 415, Hypatia set out from
her home to go for her daily ride through the city. Suddenly, she found her way
blocked by a ‘multitude of believers in God.’ They ordered her to get down from
her chariot. Knowing what had recently happened to her friend Orestes she must
have realized as she climbed down that her situation was a serious one. She
cannot possibly have realized quite how serious.
As soon as she stood on the street, the parabalani
(‘the restless ones’), under the guidance of a Church magistrate called Peter –
‘a perfect believer in all respects in Jesus Christ’ – surged round and seized
‘the pagan woman.’ They then dragged Alexandria’s greatest living mathematician
through the streets to a church. Once inside, they ripped the clothes from her
body and, using broken pieces of pottery as blades, flayed her skin from her
flesh. Some say that, while she still gasped for breath, they gouged out her
eyes. Once she was dead, they tore her body into pieces and threw what was left
of the ‘luminous child of reason’ onto a pyre and burned her.(p.146)
Catherine Nixey’s book, The
Darkening Age, can be read as a story of cultural genocide, in the quest
for cultural hegemony -- the organic extension and growth of social inequality.
Some might say that we have again arrived at this moment in history where
unimaginably privileged fanatics impose their half-baked ideas on society, at an
extreme cost to the rest of us.
Beware of
the billionaires and their vast army of recruits; they existed before
capitalism, and now they are more powerful than ever . . . .
The 24+items below reflect a diversity of views on the dynamics which are shaping our society in this time
of multiple crises. Of equal importance in the media is that which is said, and that
which is not said; and, of course, that which is
prohibited from being published and distributed. In the articles and essays
below, we can clearly see the radical critique of the capitalist system and the
search for a new economic order, but there are other concerns expressed, as
well: the possible existence of a hierarchy of social classes without
capitalism is one; another is the desire to construct a society without social class divisions. As we observe
the unfolding of events around us, different needs and new potentials become increasingly obvious.
Only informed public discussions
can improve our vision, and empower us to think differently and to choose our
destinies more carefully.

The trap was set at least twenty-five years ago and the
mice jumped at the smell of the cheese. I am referring to the introduction of
the computer as a mass necessity and the Internet that followed. I was slow to
enter the trap, “forced” finally in 2007 by the college where I was teaching.
Up to that point, I was just a member of The Lead Pencil
Club, whose motto was “a speed bump on the information superhighway” and whose
membership list numbered twenty-three and a half people worldwide. When I
slowly and reluctantly reached for the cheese the trap snapped, not on my neck
to finish me, but on my head that was half in and half out.
The out part kept thinking . . . .
What follows are that half-head’s musings on why I didn’t
follow my intuition, the whole damn sorry situation we are all in, and what we
might do to spring the trap and run free. I don’t like this trapped feeling.
And, by the way, the cheese was American, which is not exactly real cheese.
In 1960 the sociologist C. Wright Mills said that there
was far too much information for people to assimilate and make sense of and
that lucid summations were needed. He was echoing Thoreau who in 1854 said:
“If you are acquainted with the principle, what do you care
for a
myriad instances and applications?”
Mills said people needed to develop what he called the
sociological imagination that would allow them to condense and simplify news
and to connect personal and social matters within historical and structural
contexts.

has claimed a million lives despite a vaccine sent from the future, yet EU
officials are patting themselves on the back for a good job and mull even more
bureaucracy. That is how a comic book published by the EU ends.
While there
is no shortage of epidemic fiction out there, some titles are more obscure than
others. The comic book “Infected” by French writer Jean-David Morvan is not an international bestseller, yet it surely
stands out. For one, despite being released in 2012, it features some of the
hot-button elements of the real Covid-19 pandemic we are living through today.
And it was also published by the EU, so you may guess who the ultimate “good guys” in it are.
In a
nutshell, the comic is about a man who travels from the future to our time to
prevent a devastating global infection with the help of a hot Chinese assistant
to the UN’s top epidemic expert.
The reader
witnesses bewildering events at a Chinese P4 biosafety
level lab, an attempt to steal the cure and sell it to the Big Pharma, a scene of an animal-to-human virus transmission at
a crowded Asian wet market, and even a self-congratulatory session at the EU
Parliament building in Brussels.
In the
fictional reality the authorities stop the killer virus in just six weeks after
unrolling mass production of serum and vaccine from samples brought by the
time-traveling man – and before that, the pandemic is notably “out of control.” At the end of the
book, the bureaucrats declare losing less than a million lives as a job well
done. The US Secretary of State and UN Secretary General readily agree via a
video link, while China, Russia and others have, seemingly, not been invited.

in Houston has a "perfect" success rate, as the staff there treats
its patients with hydroxychloroquine, along
with "a cocktail of vitamins, steroids and blood
thinners"—and, apparently, no ventilators.)
In short, now that "the coronavirus"
has already peaked, we need to combat the strategic terror over it,
and the lethal policies based squarely on that fear; and to hold the
drivers of that fear—including "our free press"—accountable.

Only a third of the excess deaths seen
in the community in England and Wales can be explained by covid-19, new data
have shown.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS)
data,1 which cover deaths in hospitals, care homes, private
homes, hospices, and elsewhere, show that 6035 people died as a result of
suspected or confirmed covid-19 infection in England and Wales in the week
ending 1 May 2020 (where deaths were registered up to 9 May), a decline of 2202
from the previous week.
Although the number of deaths in care
homes has fallen for the second week in a row, more covid
related deaths are being reported in care homes than in hospitals and are
tailing off more slowly.
However, David Spiegelhalter,
chair of the Winton Centre for Risk and Evidence Communication at the
University of Cambridge, said that covid-19 did not explain the high number of
deaths taking place in the community.
At a briefing hosted by the Science
Media Centre on 12 May he explained that, over the past five weeks, care homes
and other community settings had had to deal with a “staggering burden” of
30 000 more deaths than would normally be expected, as patients were
moved out of hospitals that were anticipating high demand for beds.
Of those 30 000, only 10 000
have had covid-19 specified on the death certificate. While Spiegelhalter
acknowledged that some of these “excess deaths” might be the result of underdiagnosis, “the huge number of unexplained extra
deaths in homes and care homes is extraordinary. When we look back . . . this
rise in non-covid extra deaths
outside the hospital is something I hope will be given really severe
attention.”
He added that many of these deaths would
be among people “who may well have lived longer if they had managed to get to
hospital.”

As today’s world teeters on the brink of a financial collapse greater
than anything the world experienced in either 1923 Weimar or the 1929 Great
depression, a serious discussion has been initiated by leaders of Russia and
China regarding the terms of the new system which must inevitably replace the
currently dying neo-liberal order.
Most recently, Vladimir Putin re-initiated his January 16, 2020 call for a new emergency economic
conference to deal with the looming disaster based upon a live session with
representatives of the five nuclear powers of the UN Security Council.
While Putin’s commitment for this new system is premised upon multi-polar
principles of cooperation and respect of national sovereignty, the financial
oligarchy and broader deep state structures infesting the western nations who
have initiated this crisis over the course of decades of globalization have
called for their own version of a new system.
This new system as we have seen promoted by the likes of the Bank of
England and leading technocrats over the past year, is based upon an
anti-Nation State, unipolar system which typically
goes by the term “Green New Deal”. In other words, this is a system ruled by a technocratic elite managing the reduction of world
population through the monetization of carbon reduction practices under a
Global Government.
No matter how you look at it, a new system will be created out of the
ashes of the currently dying world order. The question is only: Will it benefit
the oligarchy or the people?
In order to inform the necessary decision making going into this
emergency conference, it is useful to revisit the last such emergency
conference that defined the terms of a world economic architecture in July 1944
so that similar mistakes that were then made by anti-imperialist forces are not
made once more.

With US deaths from Covid-related complications
peaking above 30,000, allies of President Donald Trump are taking their
anti-China public relations blitz to new heights of absurdity, hoping to
legitimize a conspiracy theory blaming a Chinese biological research lab for
engineering the novel coronavirus.
The theory points to the Wuhan Institute of Virology as the culprit
behind the pandemic, either through an accidental leak caused by unsafe
research on bat coronaviruses or deliberately, by
manufacturing a biological weapon. First deployed in January by the right-wing
Washington Times, the conspiracy was dismissed and discredited at the time by
journalists and scientists.
With an apparent cue this April from a Trump administration desperate to
shift the blame for its feckless coronavirus
response, Fox News and the Washington Post have fished the story out of the
right-wing’s political wet market and polished it off for public consumption.
Though neither outlet published a single piece of concrete evidence to

The Trump administration is saber rattling, again. Five Iranian
trade ships are on their way to Venezuela as the two countries are engaging
in trade in order to overcome the brutal sanctions imposed by the U.S.
Unfortunately, senior administration officials have called this trade
“unwelcome” and threatened to take “measures” in response, an ominous warning
given that the US Navy is already deployed in the Caribbean and has
threatened to shoot down Iranian ships in the seas outside their own country. Both Iran and Venezuela are subject to what Trump calls “maximum
pressure.” Now the Trump administration could start a war or deadly
military actions against both countries if it intercepts the trade
ships. The U.S. has no business interfering in peaceful trade between
two countries. It’s no secret why Venezuela and Iran are trading: the U.S.
sanctions. The people, economies and health sectors of both countries have
been devastated by sanctions, and the U.S. is targeting businesses that trade
with either. That leaves them little choice but to trade with each other.
Iran is sending oil refinery technicians and gasoline to Venezuela in
exchange for gold. Iran faces a cash deficit and Venezuela has a fuel
shortage (after the Trump administration abruptly cut it off from purchasing
chemicals needed to make gas last month), so it’s trade that makes sense for
both, particularly in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. There’s nothing alarming or nefarious about a gasoline for gold
trade, but the Trump administration is doing everything it can to criminalize
something countries do on a daily basis. Venezuela noted that any action
against the ships would be a violation of international law, while Iran
warned of a “quick and decisive response” should the ships be confronted — a
potentially catastrophic situation. Iran and Venezuela have a lot in common: they’re both nations
that have opposed U.S. hegemony and have faced U.S. regime change efforts for

7° Présenter une obésité (indice de masse corporelle (IMC) > 30 kgm2) ;
8° Etre atteint d'une immunodépression congénitale ou acquise :
- médicamenteuse : chimiothérapie anti cancéreuse, traitement
immunosuppresseur, biothérapie et/ou corticothérapie à dose immunosuppressive ;
- infection à VIH non contrôlée ou avec des CD4 < 200/mm3 ;
- consécutive à une greffe d'organe solide ou de cellules souches
hématopoïétiques ;

directrice du Théâtre du Soleil milite pour que l’art vivant, essentiel à
la société, ne soit pas oublié. Terrassée par le Covid-19,
elle s’est réveillée dans une France confinée où les théâtres étaient à l’arrêt, artistes et intermittents sans travail, salles de
représentation fermées. Cette crise historique, elle la traverse en artiste et
en citoyenne. Dès que possible, elle reprendra les répétitions avec ses
comédiens. Et avec eux transformera sa colère en une œuvre éclairante.
Réclusion des aînés, mensonges, infantilisation… aujourd’hui, Ariane Mnouchkine
ne cache pas son indignation face aux couacs du pouvoir :
« En nous
répétant, soir après soir, contre tout bon sens, que les masques étaient
inutiles voire dangereux, ils nous ont, soir après soir, désinformés et,
littéralement, désarmés.(…) Alors qu’il eût fallu nous
appeler à porter systématiquement le masque, quitte, puisqu’il n’y en avait
pas, à en fabriquer nous-mêmes. Je suis de celles et ceux qui pensent que son usage

Pendant un an,
ils restent sourds aux cris d’alarme des soignantes et soignants qui défilent

gens le respectent et que ceux qui ne le font pas vivent souvent dans des

night, epidemiologist Knut Wittkowski appeared on
Laura Ingram's show on Fox, to talk about YouTube's having taken down the video
of his first interview in the series "Perspectives on the Pandemic,"
after racking up more than 1.5 million views. The interview with Ingram is
itself worth watching:

time he appeared on Ingram's show, YouTube was still featuring Prof. Wittkowski's second
interview in the "Perspectives" series—and then yanked that

explained his recent seroprevalence study
in Santa
Clara County, demonstrating that the death rate from COVID-19 is actually far lower
than the New York Times et al.
have millions of us thinking. (Despite Wittkowski's willingness
to go on Ingram's show, neither he nor Dr. Ioannidis is "on the
right," or seems much interested in
politics at all.)

By now it
should be obvious to anyone whose eyes are open, and who's still capable of
rational thought, that YouTube—along with Google*, Facebook
and Twitter—allows "free speech" to dissidents as long as they don't reach too many people.
Thus YouTube took down Wittkowski's second video last night because
his interview on Fox would certainly have grown the number of those interested
in watching it. (By the time he spoke to Ingram and her audience, that video
had drawn roughly 313,000 views.) In short, no one capable of powerfully contradicting the Official
Narrative on COVID-19,
or any
other urgent topic, will ever be allowed into the bully pulpit maintained by
"our free press," most "social media," and the state/corporate
powers controlling them.
This has
been the case for quite a while; and yet such censorship has never been as
flagrant, or as sweeping, as it is today, in order to protect a global
propaganda drive that's easily the most ambitious—and, if we don't counter
it, will be the
most catastrophic—in world history.
To put it
simply, this is war; and since the truth will
finally bring us peace, and set us free, we must do everything
we can, use every means available, to tell it.

Besides video games and Netflix, books
are the only things any of us have left to keep us sane besides conversations
with our significant others on Facetime. Yes, there’s
plenty to do—plenty of options to fill the time in between trips to the grocery
store and reading news about the Chinese coronavirus,
and books fill a void that otherwise goes unfilled, leaving only anxiety to
take its place.
Books are essential in lockdown, but the
New Zealand government doesn’t think so. Under the onerous orders of Jacinda Ardern, a leader praised
for her ability to lead the country through this global struggle under the
auspices of “sympathy, love, and integrity” according to The Guardian, New Zealand has
banned the sale of books as non-essential items.
Instead, the premier advises New
Zealanders to keep
a diary to help with contact tracing, as if they don’t have enough on
their minds already that they need to log their every move and rack their
brains with anxiety with fears that they might be infected, or worse—infected
someone they care about.
Under some of the toughest coronavirus restrictions that would make Michigan’s Dolores
Umbridge-like governor look like a kindly grandmother
in a Disney movie, Ardern’s government has banned all
non-essential shopping and online delivery, and it has done so since 26 March.
That’s a long time to go without entertainment.

26, 2020, activists, citizens and scholars from 20 countries in over 25
locations will convene “The Global Teach-In 2020: Democratize
the Crisis.” The event combines seminars and a global town meeting to
identify problems and propose solutions for strengthening democratic
institutions. The health, economic, political and informational

examined.
The Global
Teach-In will examine how the coronavirus pandemic
has exposed the limits of current systems used to manage land, agricultural,
human and medical resources. Land Grabs promote
greater intermingling of human beings and wild animals, and thus exposure to
killer viruses. A lack of adequate informational channels has limited
accurate health information. The global recession has
led to a renewed focus on how to create and anchor jobs locally or convert
workforces rapidly from exposed service work to critical areas related to

During a CNN interview last Sunday, Wojcicki explained there was “a 75 percent increase in the news coming from authoritative sources since the beginning of 2020. So, we have seen a lot of demand there.”
“But then we also talk about removing information that is problematic,” she continued. “Of course, anything that is medically unsubstantiated. So people saying, like, take vitamin C, you know, take turmeric, like, those are — will cure you. Those are the examples of things that would be a violation of our policy.”

Now begins the grand effort, on display in thousands of articles and news broadcasts daily, somehow to normalize the lockdown and all its destruction of the last two months. We didn’t lock down almost the entire country in 1968/69, 1957, or 1949-1952, or even during 1918. But in a terrifying few days in March 2020, it happened to all of us, causing an avalanche of social, cultural, and economic destruction that will ring through the ages.
There was nothing normal about it all. We’ll be trying to figure out what happened to us for decades hence.
How did a temporary plan to preserve hospital capacity turn into two-to-three months of near-universal house arrest that ended up causing worker furloughs at 256 hospitals, a stoppage of international travel, a 40% job loss among people earning less than $40K per year, devastation of every economic sector, mass confusion and demoralization, a complete ignoring of all fundamental rights and liberties, not to mention the mass confiscation of private property with forced closures of millions of businesses?
Whatever the answer, it’s got to be a bizarre tale. What’s truly surprising is just how recent the theory behind lockdown and forced distancing actually is. So far as anyone can tell, the intellectual machinery that made this mess was invented 14 years ago, and not by epidemiologists but by computer-simulation modelers. It was adopted not by experienced doctors – they warned ferociously against it – but by politicians.
Let’s start with the phrase social distancing, which has mutated into forced human separation. The first I had heard it was in the 2011 movie Contagion. The first time it appeared in the New York Times was February 12, 2006:
If the avian flu goes pandemic while Tamiflu and vaccines are still in short supply, experts say, the only protection most Americans will have is “social distancing,” which is the new politically correct way of saying “quarantine.”
But distancing also encompasses less drastic measures, like wearing face masks, staying out of elevators — and the [elbow] bump. Such stratagems, those experts say, will rewrite the ways we interact, at least during the weeks when the waves of influenza are washing over us.
Maybe you don’t remember that the avian flu of 2006 didn’t amount to much. It’s true, despite all the extreme warnings about its lethality, H5N1 didn’t turn into much at all. What it did do, however, was send the existing president, George W. Bush, to the library to read about the 1918 flu and its catastrophic results. He asked for some experts to submit some plans to him about what to do when the real thing comes along.
